There are many hospitals for children in Dhaka. Not all of them has a good reputation. Recently Dhaka is experiencing massive outrage of Dengue. There are not enough Hospitals for Children in Dhaka. Thousands of patients are admitting every day in various hospitals of Dhaka. Approximately 37000 patients are admitted so far this year with 29 confirmed dead. However unofficial death toll is around 80. Hospitals are full of dengue patients.

For the first time, I have seen private hospitals are refusing to admit patients due to the shortage of Bed. With Dengue there are many other diseases that are being ignored right now. Eid ul Adha is on 12th August. Peoples are leaving Dhaka, taking the dengue with them to villages. Dengue outbreak may yet cause severe damage. The govt hospitals in our country are always full of patients. Now at the moment of crisis, everybody is giving their optimum to save the patients. Holiday has been canceled for govt doctors. Extreme caution must be taken to prevent a dengue outbreak. Rural cities do not have enough hospitals to take care of dengue patients. Children’s suffer most from dengue.

I have got several calls from my relatives and friends to find a seat for admission. They were traveling in an Ambulance to find a seat. So it is better to call the Hospital first to get confirmation if there is any seat available. Here I have made a list of Pediatric child hospitals in Dhaka city. Not all the hospitals have PICU or ICU capacity. It is better to take your child in a hospital which has a PICU. Because in case of emergency the child may need to transfer to a PICU seat.

Recently there was a child who was transferred to Square hospital from Anwer Khan Modern Hospital as there was no PICU in AKMMCH. The child later died in PICU of Square Hospital. The authority has not taken enough precaution to prevent dengue outbreak timely. Hence there are lose of so many valuable life. The government hospital is not listed here. DMCH, the country’s largest government hospital, does not have Paediatric ICU (PICU). The private hospital usually charges about 20000 to 30000 per day for ICU care.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)

BSMMU is the largest Medical University and Top center for medical excellence. It has a pediatric care ward. And all other departments. But as a Medical University focused mainly on Postgraduate study, there is very limited seat. The same thing, Political influence are also applied here. BIRDEM hospital is well known for its diabetic care. But it has all other facilities like Medical College, Cardiac care, Surgical care, etc. BIRDEM hospital is located in Shahbag, everybody knows that. But the mother and Child Hospitals is located on Segunbagicha. Prof Abid Hossain Mollah has a chamber in this unit. He is available almost every day, in the evening.

MR Khan is called the father of Pediatrics in Bangladesh. He established, several hospitals in Dhaka and Satkhira. It is a 250 bedded Children hospital with 24 hours of emergency and OPD services & a Child Health Institute. This a good hospital for children.

Square Hospital is for really rich people. Recently a child died due to Dengue in Square Hospital PICU under the care of PICU Consultant Dr. Ahmed Sayed. The parents who happen to be Doctor has filed written complaint to BMDC and Health Ministry for negligence. The child Mohammad Irtiza Shahad Prottoy was 7 years old died one day after admission. The grieved father has to pay around 2 Lakh taka as Hospital Bill.
